Foods to Keep you Healthy and Well-Nourished While on Camping
Do you have an idea what type of foods are ideal to eat when you are camping?
Plan your Camp Menu Decide what you are going to
eat and how you are going to cook it; then plan what equipment you
will need. Keep the season and weather in mind.
Use a safe cooler if car-camping or boating, or pack foods in the
frozen state with a cold source if hiking or backpacking. Keep raw
foods separate from other foods. Never bring meat or poultry
products without a cold source to keep them safe.
Bring disposable wipes or biodegradable soap for hand- and
dishwashing.
Plan on carrying bottled water for drinking. Otherwise, boil
water or use water purification tablets.
Do not leave trash in the wild or throw it off your boat.
If using a cooler, leftover food is safe only if the cooler still
has ice in it. Otherwise, discard leftover food.
Whether in the wild or on the high seas, protect yourself and
your family by washing your hands before and after handling food.

It is important that you know how long your camping activity will last. Make sure that you do not under pack your camping food—if you are camping for about 4 days, prepare foods that will last for five days or longer. It is better to have an extra supply rather than be short-handed. In case you will be doing some extra activities such as hiking, you will not be worrying about your hunger later on.
Consider your nutrition. Make sure that you take camping foods that keep you well-fed and
keep your energy level up. Food must keep your body hydrated
and full of energy. Energy bars are a good but not enough for
a full meal.
Take plenty of foods and water to keep your body hydrated. Non-perishable items are best,
but if you've got a good cooler to keep them fresh, then load up on
perishables as well.
Bring foods that are lightweight such as cereals, dried fruits, and nutritious snacks. These items can be stored in an airtight container.
You can also bring drink mixes such as coffee and tea to mix with water if you want to have a refreshing drink to pick up in the morning. If you prefer easy-to-prepare warm meals, you can include in your camp menu several cups of soup packets where you just need to add some hot water and you now have a warm meal or snack in a few minutes. It is also good especially when you are on camping during cold weather.
Canned meats and vegetables are also good source of nutrition. Fishes such as tune or salmon and canned chicken can also be used in several easy to prepare recipes. Salami does not need to be cooked and is great on crackers for a snack.
